The Perfect Goodbye!

Welcome back Nice Girls! As the year comes to an end I want to remind you to not give up on 2010 just yet. I have noticed some people are wishing this year away. I think it is important to take a few minutes to relax and reflect on this past year. This year may have brought bad memories, weight gain or you might have even lost a friendship but remember, bad experiences are what prepare us for the good times ahead.

As this incredible year comes to an end I would like to share a few of my highlights.

This past February I hurdled over my nerves and did something new and scary. I tried out for the Cleveland Gladiators Kick off Crew. This is a professional cheerleading team that supports the Cleveland Gladiators, an AFL indoor arena football team. I was so nervous I swear my hands were visibly shaking, but I sucked it up and went for it. To my surprise I made the team. The new friends I made, the lessons I learned and all of my hard work I had put into this team will never be forgotten in the years to come.

Becoming a Resident Assistant was another highlight of my fabulous year. I’ve met people this year I probably would have never met without Res Life. Being an RA has taught me time management, responsibility and has brought new challenges to the table. I am looking forward to what is to come in my RA career.

Writing to all of you has been an incredible experience. I love your feedback, suggestions and blog requests. I cannot wait to see where I can take you this year. Keep an eye out for new fierce and fabulous blogs in 2011. As always, thank you for making my blog a success.

I spent last summer at Kent State University where I took 3 classes. I did not plan on spending my entire summer at college, but it really did pay off. My favorite class was French. Meeting new friends and catching up with and relearning the language was my favorite part.

I did not think I was going to make it through summer classes. My only motivation was VACATION 2010 to Virginia Beach with my family. This vacation was the highlight of my summer. It was a much needed get away after summer classes.

Another highlight, or shall I call it a lowlight was my concussion. This was the worst 10 weeks of my college career. Having to sit through classes unable to concentrate, taking tests about things I could not remember and waking up with a headache everyday was terrible. All and all it did not kill me so I think it made me stronger. I am now very careful about what I do concerning my head. Be safe in all activities you do and avoid injury as much as possible.

I have not met too many people in my life that have offered a life changing friendship. I am walking away from 2010 with a great friend that I consider a lifelong friend. Through the good and definitely through the bad we bring out the best in each other. Whether it’s a hug, a smile or even a good “Listen you screwed up” I know I have one of the best friends a girl could ask for. For Christmas this friend gave me an “all about me” day by day calendar. It was a perfect gift for this self-actualized (wink, wink) female. I cannot wait to see where this New Year takes us. You’re my best friend, and I truly appreciate everything you have brought into my life this year.

If I can offer you one piece of advice for the new year it would be to start with a small resolution. There is nothing worse than setting huge unattainable goals. Start small and work your way up to your ultimate goal. I believe in you, and I know you can conquer everything this new year brings! Have a fabulous, safe and fun night while celebrating 2011! And remember, Nice Girls always finish first!

Birthdays, Movies and Smoothies

Ho ho ho Everyone! I feel like it has been forever since I have had the chance to write to you. I was doing so well posting blogs and then I became lazy again. Well since it has been a month since the last post, I hope you had a fabulous Thanksgiving and are enjoying the holiday season with your families.

My 20th birthday was a few days ago, and those who know me best know I was dreading turning 20. I think 20 is such an ugly number and I was convinced I was not turning 20 but turning ugly instead. Needless to say, I did not wake up with gray hair, bags under my eyes or wrinkles. I woke up to the same Brittnee. After reflecting on leaving my teens behind, I did seem to feel a little older on my birthday. Well, maybe not older but more mature for sure. My grandparents were nice enough to give me a gift card to Bob Evans, my favorite restaurant. I cannot wait to go back to school and have money to spend on food off campus. This year my parents gave me a fabulous gift. Since I was complaining about turning ugly, I was treated to a spa day. I enjoyed a manicure, pedicure and a facial. What a great way to fight away the ugly 20. I topped off my day by seeing the new Reese Witherspoon movie with one of my best friends. I highly recommend “How Do You Know”. That reminds me…I should write a review on the movie.

I am a sucker for a strawberry smoothie from Baskin-Robbins. Smoothies don’t have a lot to do with birthdays or movies for that matter but they sure are good. As crazy as this may sound I might have 2-3 a week depending on the circumstances when I’m away at school. But after being shocked by the calorie count, I decided I should find a healthier alternative to my smoothie addiction. During an episode of the Biggest Loser from Season 9 Bob talked about the Yoplait Frozen Smoothie so today I tagged along to the local Giant Eagle with my mom for this week’s groceries. I was on the lookout for this frozen treat. Luckily I found it in the frozen section in Giant Eagle next to the frozen fruit. I was so excited to come home and make a smoothie. It was really good and super easy to make! Each packet makes 2 smoothies and is only 170 calories after you add Skim Milk. I highly recommend this awesome frozen treat! Give it a try and let me know what you think.

Stay tuned for the review on “How Do You Know”. I will try my best to have it up in a few days. Happy Holidays, and remember Nice Girls always finish first.

Blog request: Holiday Gift Ideas

Hey everyone! What does this blog and Black Friday have in common? SHOPPING, GIFTS and much much more! I also want to remind all the nice girls out there that Black Friday is right around the corner so get that shopping list together, find your crazy outfit and get ready for the holiday shopping season! I received a great request from a reader to blog about holiday gift ideas. I am going to do my best to give gender specific ideas to help shopping for dads, brothers and boyfriends much easier. Please remember that these are just my ideas.

For all you parents out there shopping for your college student I am here to say we want your money! I’m just kidding… kind of. It’s hard being a college student on our own and away from home and money is always short. A great gift for a college student is a gift card. I know you are sitting there shaking your head at me thinking gifts cards are impersonal and uncreative. I agree in some circumstances but for your college student, they are a perfect idea. Think along the lines of a gas card or a gift card to your student’s favorite restaurant that is close to campus. An iTunes gift card is also great. I know I love having the latest and greatest music on my iPod. Help your student download legally and purchase an iTunes gift card. It’s a perfect stocking stuffer.

For the book worm consider Borders or a local bookstore and purchase a new popular book on the shelf. I love having someone buy books for me because I usually receive books I may have not picked up on my own. Also think about getting their favorite book in a special edition hardcover for a keepsake. Maybe even pick up a book for yourself while you are out so you can cuddle up next to the fire and read a good book.

Everyone has a family member or even a friend who loves jewelry. My best advice, stop by your local Forever 21. They have a fabulous collection of inexpensive jewelry. You can also try Charlotte Russe for a variety of affordable items. There is nothing better than receiving a cute pair of earrings or a new necklace that puts the finishing touch on your favorite outfit.

How about grandma or another sentimental person in your family? One of my favorite things to do is purchase a photo album and place a few memorable photos inside. Everyone knows how much grandma loves pictures! I know mine does.

Dads… are so hard to shop for. My dad is a car lover. For his birthday I got him a “car spa kit”. I put everything from wax to shop towels inside of a bucket for the garage. I know my dad can’t wait for the winter to be over so he can get out his new spa items and get to work on his truck… I hope he won’t forget about my car. J

Last but not least a girl’s best friend, MOM. Stop by Bath and Body Works and pick up her favorite scent. Also think about getting her a spa package for a day of relaxation. Candles are a great gift to if you are looking for a stocking stuffer or a small gift.

This year, try to think of something creative to give someone. Put thought into it and make it personal, think outside of the box. The stores I mentioned are only my ideas of where you could shop.

Please keep sending in blog requests at allamericannicegirl@yahoo.com or feel free to leave ideas in the comment section below.

I am thinking about adding All-American Nice Girl to Facebook, let me know what you think. Also, I know many of you have been asking about vlogs I am getting to them I promise. I just want to make sure the next vlog I do is a good one.

Thanks for reading, and remember nice girls always finish first.

It's about that time of year again...

The holiday season is my favorite time of year. The best thing to me about the holiday season is settling in at home after a busy semester on campus and having lots of time to spend with my family and friends. There is nothing better than the cozy feeling of home after all the decorations are up and Christmas cookies are baking in the oven. I love to share this feeling with everyone and I do so by volunteering my time. I cannot wait to roll up my sleeves and lend a helping hand again this year because I had so many great experiences giving back to my community. I’m going to share my experience with you from last year in the hope of inspiring you to get involved this holiday season.

Last year as the fall semester came to an end, I wanted to mark my break with something I could really be proud of when I went back to school in January. I’ve volunteered a lot but this time I wanted to do something that would allow me to interact with those I was helping. I wanted to show people that I care and that there is hope so I did some research to find a way I could be hands on in my community. I decided to work with the Salvation Army. I volunteered for 3 days in their toy distribution warehouse. Those three days are and will continue to be some of my best holiday memories ever. It was so heartwarming to help parents who had little hope of giving their children a happy holiday, choose gifts that I just knew were going to make their kids light up with joy on Christmas morning. It was such a rewarding experience because the families were so thankful and I knew I was watching dreams come true.

After this amazing experience I cannot think of a better way to spend a few days on my winter break. This year I plan to return to the Salvation Army’s toy distribution warehouse and again volunteer my time with this worthwhile organization. You may even find me ringing one of those familiar bells.

Comment below and tell me how you plan to give back this holiday season. Please give generously and make a difference in someone’s life. Remember, Nice Girls always put others first.

Professionalism

In this latest edition of the Nice Girl Blog, I’m going to share my thoughts on professionalism. I’ve been finalizing my academic plans and researching internships that will lead me down my ultimate career path. I’ve been making mental notes as I come into contact with professors, administrators and career professionals. I’m learning a lot about portraying a professional image so that I can market myself effectively. I’m also learning a lot about what not to do unless I want to sabotage my future.

I hate to admit it but I’m seeing so much unprofessionalism from those who should know better. A striking example of what not to do is not being responsive or not following through. At this stage of my fledgling career, I’m looking to seasoned professionals for guidance and examples but too often the examples I am seeing are examples of things I don’t want to do. I suppose it’s a good thing that I am seeing this in action because it’s very obvious that I do not want to be like that. I will pride myself on being responsive even in difficult situations.

With the advantages of today’s technology, there is no excuse not to respond to someone. There’s a lot to be said for face to face communication and we must be careful not to let electronic communications become our sole means of sharing information. However, it takes mere seconds to send a text message or email in the midst of a busy day. Neglecting to respond, especially when someone needs some piece of information from you or is waiting for action on your part, clouds your performance and will eventually overshadow your skills. Don’t be that girl!

I’m challenging all nice girls in November to follow though! Respond! Don’t leave your friends hanging. Even if it’s just an invitation to an informal get together or study session, send a quick text to let your friends know your status. It’s a good habit to get into now because before we know it, we’ll be out there in the real world managing multiple projects and people and situations. What we do now sets the foundation for our performance in the future. This nice girl will always and forever be professional in whatever I do. How about you?

Have a fun, safe and responsible Halloween and remember Nice Girls always finish first!

Items I always keep on hand

Hey everyone.

It’s time to make this blog come to life again. I was so busy over the summer with classes. I can’t believe how quickly the time passed. I really miss blogging and talking to you about this and that. I am in the process of coming up with new ideas for my blog and vlog. For the first time back, I want to talk about a few food items I keep on hand in my dorm room.

I think it is important to have a few go to items always in reach. It helps keep me on track nutritionally and also keeps me on budget. Here is a list of items I always keep in my room:

1. 1. 24 case of water

2. 2. Granola bars

3. 3. Peanut butter and jelly

4. 4. Apples

Now I know these few things might seem funny, but they have become my staples. I like to always have water in my room so I don’t have to buy a bottle of water out of the vending machine or be tempted with a Diet Coke. (Please remember to recycle your plastic bottles.) The granola bars are a great grab and go breakfast. I love to get ready for class and walk out the door with a granola bar. This is an easy way to get a good breakfast that will hold me over until lunch. I always keep one in my purse too because you never know when a snack attack is going to hit. When standing in front of the huge granola wall in the grocery isle, be sure to check for bars with fiber and lower sugar. You need the fiber to fill you up and you don’t need a sugar overload first thing in the morning. My favorite is Special K Fruit Crisps. They are like Pop Tarts for adults. Seriously good. Ok stop laughing at the peanut butter and jelly. It’s my favorite lunch food. Listen, I’m a college student which means I don’t have much space in my room to store food and I don’t have a lot of extra money. PB&J is easy, quick and yummy for people of all ages. It is so easy to make a PB&J and relax for a while after a busy morning of classes. It’s also easy to eat on the go or with one hand if I’m working through lunch. Peanut butter makes a great healthy snack with apples too. Apples are easy to store in my dorm room and are oh so tasty dipped in a little peanut butter.

Let me know a few of the things you like to keep on hand and stay tuned for the return of the nice girl blogs!

And remember, nice girls always finish first.

Resident Assistant, A new School year, and another injury

Hey Nice girls!

Long time no see! It has been forever since I have written a blog. I have no excuses, I just have not written one.

Summer left just as fast as it came. Today ended summer 2010 for me. Classes started bright and early this morning at 8:15am. Never in my wildest dreams did I think I BrittneeNoel would have a class earlier than 10am. NEW FLASH BRITTNEE…. You do! I decided last night I would set my alarm for 6:50am to ensure I was able to snooze my alarm twice and still be up by 7. Well, I snoozed a third time, not to worry though I was ready to go with time to spare this morning. I have high expectations for what this school year has in store for me. I have been dreading this day for as long as I can remember, but now that it is here I am just making the best of it.

With a new school year brings fall weather, with fall weather comes UGG Boots! I can’t wait to slip on my Uggs and have warm feet all day long! Ugg season is my favorite! Most people put away their winter clothing and shoes and wait for summer and sunshine to arrive, well so do I. BUT I must say I put my clothes away and secretly await the cool ugg weather to approach again!

On another note I’m and RA this year. What a great experience so far! I have met so many wonderful people and I love the other staff in my building. I couldn’t have asked for a better group people to work with. Training kicked my butt though. The days were long and there was more information than a person could ever dream of comprehending. I have been looking for to tomorrow for close to two weeks now because I get to sleep in! I don’t have classes on Tuesdays and I only have a night class on Thursday giving me the whole day to do what I need to do. Hopefully I will be spending that time shopping…. I mean studying!

I am sad to report I have received another injury doing what I love. Cheerleading seems to have it out for me these past few months. Last year it was a broken rib and 8 weeks of rest. This year it is a back injury. I am going to the doctor today so I really don’t know what the correct diagnosis is. What I can tell you is that I have a bump on/near my spine in my lower back, which is extremely painful. I am hoping it is just a bruise and not anything to serious. I will find out today though. I am almost positive I can predict the words that will come out of my doctor’s mouth… you were just hurt, maybe cheering isn’t a good idea anymore. Although I will shake my head and agree with her, we all know that I love to cheer!

Hope everyone is having a great Monday! And remember, nice girls always finish first!

Where in the World is BrittneeNoel?

Hey Nice girls!

Where Have I been? I feel like I have disappeared for over a month now. Summer classes, practice and work have been keeping me super busy. Who knew I would have so much work to do with these summer classes. I have been studying every night for a French quiz, hence why I have been neglecting my blog. As soon as classes are over I will continue to get things rolling again. I promise!

I know many of you are wondering when the next vlog will be posted. I am going to try to get a video filmed this week and have it up as soon as I can. My goal is to have it up sometime by the middle of this coming week. I have a lot of great vlog ideas and I can’t wait to film them for everyone! J

I hope you are all having a wonderful and safe summer!

Yes, Vlogs are coming!

Hey Nice girls!

So I know you are all waiting with anticipation for my Vlogs! I did have the chance to purchase a flip cam and I will be getting videos up as soon as I can. I filmed my May Favorites last week and I went over the 10 minute time frame so I need to redo it. I promise the Vlogs are coming I am just in slow motion right now, I blame it on summer classes.

I hope everyone had a great Memorial Day weekend and is off to a great start to this wonderful 4 day week!

Jillian Michaels

Hey nice girls!

Boy has it been a while since I have posted a blog! I really don’t have an excuse besides I’ve been lazy. I’ve been throwing around the idea of starting a channel on YouTube. I would use this channel mainly for video blogs. I think this would be a good way for me to continue to communicate with you. Please leave comments and let me know what you think, and if you would be interested in watching.

Lifestyle update- I am continuing my journey to become healthier. This is such a challenge. I will admit I have become a little obsessed with Jillian Michaels. Okay, that may be an understatement. I have become totally obsessed with Jillian Michaels. I can honestly say I have watched every video of her on YouTube, well close to every video anyway. She is so inspiring to me. I am using her as my inspiration through this wild healthy journey. I have learned so much in the past week. The biggest thing I have learned from her is that DIET POP causes the body to release a hormone that increases your appetite. I promise I will be done with my Diet Coke when the last few are gone. I believe I have 3 left.

Also, I now own 3 of her DVD’s. I have the 30 day Shred, No More Trouble Zones and Banish Fat, Boost Metabolism. I love them all! I highly recommend each and every one of them. If you are looking for a “kick butt” workout, these DVD’s are the way to go. If you are not sure about workouts do some research. I watched a few videos of each DVD before I purchased them to make sure I was going to love them. I am alternating each DVD right now. On Monday, Wednesday and Friday I am using the “No More Trouble Zones” DVD. On Tuesday and Thursday I am working out with “Banish Fat, Boost Metabolism”. This is a great way to not become bored with your workout. At this time I am not using the 30 day Shred because I started to get bored with the exercises, but I will go back to it! Jillian has become an inspiration to me and I hope she can inspire you too!

On another note, summer classes start on Monday. The only thing I have to say about that is… EWWW! I am not excited, but I have decided to make the most of it since there is no way around it. IT MUST BE DONE! Feel free to offer words of encouragement. They would be much appreciated. Right now I don’t even have the motivation to read chapter 1! Slowly but surely I will get through the classes!

Be sure to keep your eyes peeled for May Favorites. Maybe if we are lucky May favorites may be a video blog! Keep your fingers crossed that I can find an affordable flip cam.

Well nice girls, this was a much needed rambling blog. I hope you have enjoyed reading this one! Be sure to let me know what you think about the video blogs!

And remember, nice girls always finish first!

Last Summer by Hailey Abbott- REVIEW

Summary-

The entire extended Tuttle family spends each and every summer at Pebble Beach in Maine. The story focuses on the main characters Beth, Kelsi, Ella and Jamie who are all cousins. Kelsi and Ella are sisters who have always shared a room on their summer vacation until this summer when Kelsi brings home her college roommate. Beth is struggling to become friends with her ex-boyfriend. When Beth finally meets a new guy her ex George starts to cause small problems. Jamie has a huge secret she refuses to tell anyone until the end of the book. The secret is one you did not see coming.

The story begins at Beth Tuttle’s high school graduation. Read to find out what happens during that Last Summer.

Review-

I loved this book from the moment I picked it up. This book is a very fast read. I started on Friday May 7th and finished May 10th. I did however read most of it on the 10th. Abbott’s writing allows you to picture each character and every scene in the book. The imagery is great! Each chapter talks about each character separately. For example chapter 1 is about Beth, chapter 2 is about Kelsi and chapter 3 is about Ella. This pattern continues through the whole book. Even though the chapters are put together like this each and every chapter brings all the characters together.

This book is part of a series. After reading this one I wish I would have started at the beginning of the series. If you are interested the series goes in this order,

1. Summer Boys

2. Next Summer: A Summer Boys Novel

3. After Summer: A Summer Boys Novel

4. Last Summer: A Summer Boys Novel

If you get a chance to read the entire series let me know what you think about the whole series put together.

Altogether I think this book is a great way to start out the summer! I really enjoyed this book. It was hard to put down.

Keep reading and remember, nice girls always finish first!

April Favorites

Hey Nice girls!

I have a lot I want to share with you. First and foremost, I am thinking of starting a Vlog channel on YouTube. Please let me know what you think below in the comment section. I think this would be a great way to share everything with you.

April favorites. This month I have decided to do a favorites and regrets blog. There are always those things you purchase and love and then there are the items you regret. Please do not become offended it you do not like my favorites or if you love a product or something that I don’t like. Here we go. Enjoy!

First on my list for April is my sorority, Delta Zeta! I am so excited to start my wonderful journey with all of the fabulous young women in DZ. After initiation I knew this was the top item on my favorites list for April. For those followers who are high school seniors and are getting ready for college, consider Greek Life. So far so good for me! I have no regrets and I love DZ and all of my wonderful sisters!

I’ve been on a beauty product kick for the last few months and have been purchasing new products. I bought a fabulous compact from Sephora. I was suckered into it while I was standing in line to buy a few other things. You know how they line all those products up right beside the checkout line? Yep, that’s where this was but I’m so glad I found it. Inside there are 8 eye shadows, 4 lip glosses and a bronzer. I am in love with the eye shadows! The pigments are bright and vibrant and I highly recommend them. Next time you are standing in line, I hope you can find some great eye colors too! J

Recently I have been on the hunt for great nail polish for my toes. I like to wear a bright but tasteful pretty pink. Believe it or not I have had a hard time finding a pink that I love. I finally found an OPI color that I’m crazy about. I would love to share the color with you all, but my parents just left with basically everything from my dorm room including the polish. But is an awesome color! I love it! Go out and buy a new OPI and give your feet a pop of color!

Now, there is one thing that purchased this month which I regret. As I mentioned above I have been on the search for a great polish color. While I was in Sephora I was glancing at their brand of polish colors. Now for those who are unaware, OPI actually makes a brand of polish for Sephora. Thinking to myself that the polish would be good because it is made by OPI, I purchased a pretty pink and a top coat from Sephora’s collection. When I finally found the time to paint my nails it took not 1, not 2, but 3 coats of polish for the color to not be transparent on my nail. I am really not happy with the collection OPI makes for Sephora. Its way too thin and definitely not the same quality as the regular OPI polish. The prices are the same, so if you are on the lookout for polish, purchase OPI. You will be much happier with the purchase.

Well girls this is all I have for right now. Look back in about a week after finals are over for another blog. Hopefully I will be able to post my Project 10 book list!

Good Luck on finals for those of you who are taking them in the next week or so. And for my high school seniors, school is almost over. Don’t let senioritis get the best of you! Love you all!

And remember, nice girls always finish first!

BrittneeNoel

What have I been up to?

Hey Nice girls!

Summer is just 5 finals away! I can’t wait to be home for the summer. I want to take this time to give a Reader’s Digest version of what I have been up to.

These past few weeks have been crazy, hence the limited number of blogs I have posted. Last week I was diligently working away at a huge project for my marketing class that was due last Thursday. Wednesday night my professor sent out a friendly email reminding the class that the project was due the next day. Well… after working so hard to complete my project I received another email Thursday morning. My professor said he had the due dates mixed up and the project was not due for another week. Just saying I was irritated is an understatement. After I realized I no longer had to worry about the project I smiled and got over my “project due date issue”.

This past weekend I made a trip home to spend a relaxing weekend with my parents. If helping out around the house is considered relaxing then cleaning and laundry is the cheapest stress reliever on the market. It was so nice to go home and sleep in my own bed. Before I ventured home I put a feeder block in my fish tank. I placed a 10 day feeder block in the tank for Bubba (my fish). Well the block is meant for 5 -6 fish for 10 days. Oops! I think poor Bubba has a tummy ache! Keeping my fingers crossed that he will be ok.

I am also very excited to announce that I have been being a good girl with school work. I have started to prep for finals way earlier than I normally would. Here is the biggest question I have. Why do professors give tests the week before the final exam? I feel like the test is a waste of paper. I mean the same material will be on the final anyway, so why test me twice? That’s just some food for thought for the night.

Most people know I am going to be an RA next year. I was thrilled to find out I was placed in the dorm of my choice. I have been patiently waiting to find out my room assignment. I was hoping for a large RA room, but it didn’t work out that way. I have a small room. I am going to have to scale down on everything I bring back to college in the fall. I guess the plus side is that my dad won’t have to carry in as much. Hehe.

Well this is all for my rambling blog about absolutely nothing. Feel free to comment below and let me know what you think about the professors testing the class on last minute material that will also be on the final.

Have a great rest of the week and remember, nice girls always finish first.

What exactly is a nice girl?

Hey nice girls!

When I started blogging, I mentioned I was inspired to share my thoughts after someone condemned me for being too nice. Too nice? What does that mean? How can you be too nice? I think there are way too many un-nice people out there. I know un-nice is not a word but mean does not necessarily describe what I’m talking about. Some people are just un-nice. It’s not that they are mean, but they aren’t nice either. Hence, my new word un-nice.

To really understand what it means to be un-nice, you first need to understand what it means to be a nice girl. A nice girl is caring. She is kind and she is hopeful. A nice girl never looks down upon another person. Instead, she looks up to them. A nice girl continues to grow within herself to become a better person. She challenges herself daily to be the best she can possibly be. A nice girl is someone you can count on. She will never let you down or disappoint you. A nice girl will surprise others with her integrity and dignity. A nice girl is a best friend.

In my experience, there are not nearly enough nice girls out there. Some girls are judgmental and don’t seem to care how their words or actions make others feel. I think it is important to realize that different does not mean bad or wrong. Our differences are what make us unique and special. Just because a girl doesn’t wear the latest fashions does not mean she is any less important than the girl who has clothes from all the top designers. Just because a girl chooses to participate in an activity different from another doesn’t mean that girl is not worthy of kindness. Too many times people are quick to pass judgment on someone just because she is different. The next time you are faced with a situation like that, I ask you to seriously consider your thoughts. Are you being fair? Are you being nice? Or are you being un-nice and judgmental? If you are honest with your own thoughts, you may be surprised by your answer.

I think there needs to be a lot more compassion out there. Nice girls, please have compassion for other people, even those you don’t know. Everyone deserves kindness and compassion. I’ve seen too many instances lately where girls are judgmental, un-nice and uncaring just because someone or something is different. A bit of compassion and kindness can really make a difference for someone. Try it. Go out of your way to extend a little kindness today.

I don’t mean to lecture nice girls. I’m just hoping my words inspire you to evaluate how you interact with others. If there’s room for improvement, make a change!

Please comment below about what you think a nice girl is, or share an experience where you decided to be a nice girl instead of being an un-nice girl.

Remember, nice girls always finish first.

Improvements

Hey nice girls!

What do you think of when the word improvement comes to mind? Do you think of school, relationships, or personal improvements? Today as I was trying to practice my patience the word improvement popped into my mind. For those who know me, you know I can sometimes be, well… very impatient. This is not something I am entirely proud of. To be honest, it is definitely something I am going to continue to work on.

I thought it would be fun to pick 5 things that I would like to improve over the next few months. I would love for everyone to comment back and tell me a few things you would like to improve on. I think this would be a great summer project for everyone! There is always something we nice girls can improve on. So come on! Take an honest look at yourself, inside and out. Together, let’s try to make improvements one step at a time.

My top 5 improvements:

1. Patience. As I mentioned above, I have a tendency to be impatient. It is my goal over the next few months to step back from a situation, take a deep breath and remember being impatient will get me nowhere. This will be the hardest improvement for me but I am up for the challenge.

2. Sleep. As a college student I love to sleep and sleep and sleep. I wish I could wake up earlier and enjoy my day to the fullest. While I love to sleep in until 10 or even 11 in the morning, it wastes precious time. I am going to face my sleeping habits and correct them! I want the opportunity to have more productive hours during the day.

3. Healthy eating. I may be a nice girl, but I love my junk food! I want to add more fruit and veggies into my daily diet. Being healthy and staying fit are important to me. My goal is to reach for an apple the next time I have the munchies. For all of you nice girls going to college in the fall, starting a healthy diet before you get to school will help you avoid the infamous freshman fifteen. Be healthy - take on the apple challenge.

4. Fresh Air. I love to be outside during the summer, but I also love the air conditioning. I want to spend more time outside this summer enjoying the sunshine (wearing a great SFP of course). Fresh air is good for you. I really don’t think I need to sit inside all day and watch TV. I could be enjoying the sunshine with a cold glass of lemonade and a great book. Next time I reach for the remote I’ll reach for a great book instead and head outside.

5. Procrastination. I am the number 1 fan of procrastination. I tend to do class work last minute. Especially when it comes to writing papers. I do have a tendency to say I do my best work at the last minute which sometimes might be true, but it stresses me out. It is too late this semester to work on my procrastination with class work, but in the fall I plan to be on top of my assignments and get them done early enough to not have to worry about them at the last minute. I know this will be a huge challenge for me but… BRING IT ON!

Try and come up with a few things you would like to improve on. I know it can be hard to think of some, but I know you can do it.

Have an awesome Friday and a wonderful weekend! And remember, nice girls always finish first.
